Color Coding For Conveinence
Playing in casinos can be confusing at times. Tone of the most common mistakes players make is sitting at a game table and placing a bet below the minimum. To avoid this embarrassing situation, casinos have color coded the betting chips to make it easier for the player to approach the correct table.
Many casinos color-code their table game signs to match the denomination of chip for the minimum bet for that table. All one has to do is glance at the color code of the chips and the table. Simple as pie.
Majority of the chips are color coded like other casinos. The denominations of the colors denote:
White or Blue chips = one dollar. Red chips = five dollars (called nickels) Green chips = twenty-five dollars (called quarters) Black chips = one hundred dollars. Purple Chips = five hundred dollars (called Barneys) Orange chips = one thousand dollars (called pumpkins)
There may be specfially colored chips that may be used in commemorative events or casino anniversaries.
Although most casinos have their own logos on the chips, most casinos have agreed on a standard color scheme that is visible everywhere. The decision to standardize the colors came after an incident involving $1 black casino chips were mistaken for $100 casino chips.
Other concerns such as scammers mixing counterfeit chips with the rest of the black ones forced most casinos to recall the black chips and adjust their system accordingly.
Players may sometimes encounter a different color in some casinos but most casinos ahev agreed on red and green chips as the basic denomination. The reason why reds and greens are the most common color is that it makes it easier for the casino crew to determine how much a player bets.
Matching the color of the chips with the colored table signs makes it easy for the player to know if they are in the right table or not. A red sign or red colored card indicates a five dollar table. Likewise, a green colored card signifies a minimum bet of $25 dollars.
Convenience is the key factor here. While some tables have minimums that do not correspond to the chip colors, any chip would suffice provided it is sufficient.
Players who love to jump casinos should remember that while the chip colors look alike, they can only be used in their own casino.
The idea of using colors is a very visual marketing technique designed to make players remember where they play and to entice them to keep coming back.
